Kavanagh St is really a main street disguised as an hidden alleyway.
It’s behind, and runs adjacent to City Rd, but houses a large number of Southbank residents.
It was named after former councillor and publican, Henry Kavanagh.
Mr Kavanagh ran a livery stables and hotel in Moray St, but then opened his most famous venue in Nelson St in 1877.
He became a councillor in 1880 and served for three years.
There is also a “Kavanagh Terrace” named in his honour, which is next to the hotel at Nelson St.
