On Sunday, November 14 Victoria Harbour suffered its third oil slick in less than 12 months, but authorities say there is nothing to be concerned about.
A Department of Transport spokeperson said the marine pollution team at the Department of Transport were called to inspect a possible pollution incident at Victoria Harbour.
“An investigation by the marine pollution team determined that debris and other waste from roads and gutters had gathered in the harbour as a result of recent heavy rain, which is a common occurrence in such weather conditions,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said that, as a result of the investigation, a small amount of aged diesel fuel was discovered, mixed in with the other waste.
“The marine pollution team took appropriate action to clean up the pollution. The investigation and clean-up took less than two hours,” the spokesperson said.
